Here, you’ll find information about and links to drafts that I’m currently working on–anything from a little background on a lengthy, segmented project, my most recent updates to an essay, ideas in the works, et cetera. I may also shine some light on little scraps that I come up with, or at the very least, organize them.
If you’d like further information about the things you see here or would like to pitch me an idea, you can contact me at chelsea dot fiddyment at gmail dot com.
Creative nonfiction:
- The Art of Forgetting: Making an Origami Lotus ~ This is actually the second draft of this piece, which has been a long time coming. I began the first draft several months ago, included much more background anecdotal content instead of the pared-down how-to you see here. I’ve always intended for this piece to be a how-to written in the second person, striking a fine balance like a spinning top—the steps to actually make an origami lotus (which I want to be accurate, so please test them and see if you come up with anything moderately correct; I might eventually include picture diagrams, but I’d like to avoid that if possible), perfectly controlled, and the wobbles and beginnings of losing balance created by the narrator’s own emotional stress. Revisions on the way and likely some formatting changes.
